By Firefighter Brian Porco
May 20, 2014

At 14:53 hours Sunday afternoon, Vista and South Salem Fire Departments were dual dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident with entrapment in the area of Route 123 and Colonel Ferris Road. Vista Firefighters Ron Egloff and Steven Woodstead along with Vista EMT and Foreman Alexandra Fisher and South Salem Probationary Firefighter Cody Harris were among the first arriving units on scene. These members made patient contact and determined that the individual was in fact unable to self extricate. The vehicle came to rest down a small embankment after it had rolled from its roof onto its side as it left the roadway.

A few moments later, Rescue 13 and Ambulance 84B2 arrived on scene. R13 established Vista command reporting one patient trapped, extrication underway. R13, staffed by Foreman’s Jordan Vass and Brian Porco, took the necessary precautionary measures to secure and stabilize the vehicle and roadway while Alexandra Fisher, Ron Egloff, Steven Woodstead, and Cody Harris determined the best way to remove the patient from the vehicle. 84B2’s crew, Driver Lynda Scott and EMT Olive Gonzalezz, offered assistance to the members who were facilitating the removal and packaging of the patient.

Rescue 21 and 2452 from South Salem arrived on scene as the patient was being removed from the vehicle. Some members of the R21 crew assisted New York State Police and Lewisboro Police with shutting down Route 123. Other members of the R21 crew were assisting the R13 crew with cleanup and returning the roadway to service while the patient was in the care of EMS. 84B2’s crew along with a Westchester EMS Paramedic treated the patient on the scene and transported to Norwalk hospital for further evaluation.
