Fire Call Scenarios Drill for 5/9/16

By Vista Fire Department
May 10, 2016

The Vista Fire Department Firefighters spent this week's drill training on how to operate and respond during a Fire while our EMT's practiced Firefighter rehab operations.

Led by Chief Jeff Peck, our Vista Firefighters practiced several different fire scenarios testing how they would respond to a structure fire. Firefighters would stretch an 1-3/4" hose line off of Engine 141 and practice proper layout & placement of the attack line as they fought several different "fires" in a scenario setting. This type of training is considered to be our "bread and butter" and the fundamentals of everyday Firefighting.

While our Firefighters were participating in several different scenarios, our EMT's practiced "Firefighter Rehab operations" which was designed to ensure Firefighters' physical and/or mental well-being during an emergency scene. Due to the dangers that come with Firefighting, rehab operations plays a crucial role in making sure all of our emergency responders stay safe. The Vista Fire Department is fortunate enough to offer both Fire & EMS services which allows our members to train together in crucial scenarios such as these.

For the final call scenario our Firefighters & EMT's practiced how they would respond to a downed Firefighter needing CPR during an emergency. Firefighters removed the downed Firefighter from the building to awaiting EMS crews who handled CPR operations to the awaiting Ambulance.

If you're interested in becoming a Firefighter or EMT at the Vista Fire Department feel free to stop by any Monday night from 6:30pm - 9pm or click the "Become a Member" tab at VistaFD.org.
