By Vista Fire Department
May 3, 2017

This Sunday morning we held a "Firefighter Fundamentals Class" for our members who are currently taking Firefighter I & Firefighters who are keeping up with their basic skills, an "EMT Fundamentals Class" for our members who are currently attending an EMT-Basic class and for those EMT Candidates who are preparing themselves for a future EMT-Basic class, and Driver Training for our members who are becoming Apparatus Drivers on our Tanker.

Led by Captain Mike Peck, this week's "Firefighter Fundamentals Class" had our Firefighters practice proper hydrant operations in the Vista Fire District. This type of training is what will help our Firefighters who are currently attending the New York State Firefighter I program succeed in their class and for our Firefighters who have completed Firefighter I to keep up with their skills.

This week's "EMT Fundamentals Class" led by Mutual Responder Dave Jacobsen had our EMT Candidates go over CPR call scenarios while using the Lucas CPR machine. These scenarios also included how to properly operate a stretcher during a CPR incident and how to fill out the Prehospital Care Reports (PCR's) following completion of a call. This type of training is what will prepare our EMT Candidates who are currently taking the EMT-Basic class and those EMT Candidates who are preparing themselves for a future EMT-Basic class.

The "Lucas 2 electric CPR device" is an automatic chest compression system that performs manual chest compressions at a high quality and volume. It helps First Responders from not being tired during CPR compressions by giving adequate chest compressions in accordance with the latest CPR guidelines.
