January 19, 2014

At 12:26pm the Vista Fire Department along with the South Salem Fire Department were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 15 Tommys Lane. Within 2 minutes Vista Engine 141 with a full crew was responding. Once on scene, Car 2562 (Assistant Chief Jeff Peck) updated the address to 17 Tommys Lane with a heavy attic fire, and he requested the 1st alarm bringing in Pound Ridge Tanker, Goldens Bridge Tanker, Bedford Hills Firefighter Assist and Search Team, Ridgefield Tanker, and New Canaan Ladder to the scene and Wilton Engine to cover Vista HQ. The Engine 141 crew pulled an 1 3/4” hose line into the structure and stretched into the attic through a pull down stair case. During this time Vista Tanker 4 was hooked up to Engine 141 and ready to send water. Due to high heat and heavy fire the engine crew was forced to back out of the attic twice. The crews began pulling ceilings below the fire, and re-positioned the hose line in an attempt darken down the fire. The Engine Crew updated command there was still heavy fire and high heat in the attic and that they would be making one last push. The final push was successful and after about 10 minutes in the attic the engine crew reported the main body of fire was knocked down and they would be backing out.

Firefighters from South Salem and New Canaan helped with over haul as Bedford Hills Firefighter Assist and Search Team stood by in case they were needed. Pound Ridge Tanker, Golden's Bridge Tanker and Ridgefield Tanker stood by on the scene as well.

Approximately an hour later while still on scene at Tommys Lane, the Vista and South Salem Fire Departments were dispatched to 228 Smith Ridge Road for another reported structure fire in the Vista Fire District. Car 2562 re-directed Vista Car 2564 (Captain Dan Cruz) Tower Ladder 57, South Salem Engine 167, South Salem Chief ,Wilton Engine 1 and the Ridgefield Tanker to that location. Once on scene it was reported to be an active chimney fire with minimal extension and those units were released from that scene 30 minutes later.

Special thanks to all surrounding departments on the success of both fires!
