By Vista Fire Department
August 6, 2018

This Sunday morning we held an "Advanced Firefighter Skills Class," an "MPO & Firefighter Fundamentals Class" and an "EMT Fundamentals Class" for our weekly Sunday Training.

This Sunday's "Advanced Firefighter Skills Class" focused on how to perform an Engine Company response. Vista Firefighters practiced stretching an 1-3/4" hose line off of Engine 143 into the 2nd floor of a structure to where a simulated fire was located. This type of training is what will help our Firefighters who have completed various Firefighting classes to keep up with their skills.

This Sunday's "EMT Fundamentals Class" had our EMS personnel going over cardiac, respiratory and the endocrine system to review for the upcoming EMT-Basic test for several of our members. This type of training is what will prepare our EMT Candidates who are preparing themselves for a future EMT Basic class and for our EMTs who have completed EMT Basic to keep up with their skills.

This Sunday's "MPO & Firefighter Fundamentals Class" focused on "tanker shuttle" operations. A "tanker shuttle" is where Firefighters are forced to move water via tankers due to areas with no fire hydrants or good drafting resources. It is instrumental for Departments in our area to have an adequate water supply to insure a successful fireground operation. Being that the Vista Fire District is a "rural water supply" area, practicing this type of water supply operations is instrumental. This type of training is what will help our Firefighters who plan on attending the New York State Firefighter I program succeed in their class and for our Firefighters who have completed Firefighter I to keep up with their skills.
