This week's Monday drill was a "Bail Out Review Webinar" for our Firefighters and a "MCI Triage Webinar" for our EMTs. Both of these drills had our members logging onto their computers due to the COVID-19 pandemic as the Vista Fire Department continues with holding online learning. The "Bail Out Review Webinar" drill had our Vista Firefighters reviewing the history of the bail out system in Firefighting and an overview of the bail out system we use in the Vista Fire Department. Vista Firefighters learned about their bail out system by going over how to deploy the system, how to properly maintain it and how to properly inspect it each month. During this training we also reviewed how to properly call for a "mayday" during an emergency. A "mayday" is a procedure to utilize when Firefighters find themselves in a position of imminent danger or where immediate communication is necessary to protect life or prevent injury. The "MCI Triage Webinar" drill had our Vista EMS personnel reviewing the definition of a "mass casualty incident (MCI)." Vista EMTs conducted an overview of triage operations and then put it to the test by going over several MCI scenarios. Several demonstrations for an MCI were conducted through a "tabletop" exercise giving EMTs the opportunity to operate as an EMT and also from several command roles during the scenario.
