This week's Monday Night Drill was a "Drafting Operations" drill for our Firefighters and a "Glucometry" drill for our EMTs.

The "Drafting Operations" drill had our Vista Firefighters practicing how constant water flow takes place during a fire by "drafting." Vista Firefighters reviewed drafting operations by having Engine 142 draft out of the Vista Firehouse dry hydrant as it fed water to Tanker 4 which would dump their water into the portable pond for Engine 141 to draft out of the portable pond and flow into a mini monitor. Vista Firefighters got to see a "compact" version of drafting operations that typically take place at the fireground and were able to operate at each apparatus throughout the training.

The "Glucometry" drill had our Vista EMS personnel going over how to properly use the glucometer during an EMS call. A glucometer is a medical instrument used to measure the concentration of glucose in the blood and is part of the EMS equipment we carry on our Ambulances. Vista EMS personnel reviewed our glucometry protocol, practiced taking glucometer readings on a patient during medical treatment and reviewed the differences between hypoglycemia versus hyperglycemia.
