This week's Monday drill was "V.E.I.S. and Patient Removal Operations" for our members. The "V.E.I.S. and Patient Removal Operations" drill had our Vista Fire Department personnel going over the Firefighting technique known as V.E.I.S. which is vent, enter, isolate and search. Vista Firefighters practiced venting a 2nd story window from a 24 foot ladder, they entered the room after it was vented, isolated the room to control the environment and then they conducted a rapid search to locate the patient. The V.E.I.S technique is a way for Firefighters to conduct a coordinated rescue in the event of an emergency. While our Firefighters were participating in several scenarios, our Vista EMS personnel practiced "Patient Removal Operations." Vista EMS personnel practiced listening to fireground communications, identifying when a patient was being removed from the building and properly packaging the patient for removal to an awaiting ambulance for treatment & transport to a local hospital. The Vista Fire Department is fortunate enough to offer both Fire & EMS services which allows our members to train together in scenarios such as these. The Vista Volunteer Fire Department is looking for new members! For more info on joining, click here: https://www.vistafd.org/content/become/ |
