This Wednesday evening we held a "EMT Skills Class" for our EMS personnel.

This Wednesday's "EMT Skills Class" had our Vista EMS personnel focusing on medical terminology. Vista EMS personnel learned about common roots, prefixes, and suffixes of many medical terms including how to derive the definition from breaking down the component parts of a term. We also covered acronyms and abbreviations and when it is appropriate to use each, and when not to abbreviate. And finally we covered the terms that describe anatomic locations and directions on the body. At the end of the class we taught some of our newer candidates how to take blood pressures and gave everyone the opportunity to identify what encompasses a full set of vitals as they practiced obtaining the same from their classmates. This type of training is what will prepare our EMT candidates who are planning to take a future EMT-Basic class succeed and for our EMTs who have completed EMT-Basic to become a cleared riding EMT in our Department.
