On Saturday, December 19th, the Vista Fire Department held their 2020 Annual Inspection Dinner. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire event was held virtually on Zoom. Additionally, Active Members and District Officers who elected to have a dinner were able to pick it up "curbside" from the Vista Firehouse prior to the virtual event on Zoom. All members who won an award at the 2020 Annual Inspection Dinner were asked to return back to the Vista Firehouse at the conclusion of the event to receive their award and take their photos in honor of their achievements.
At the 2020 Vista FD Annual Inspection Dinner, the VFD awarded Foreman Patrick Healy as their 2019-2020 Firefighter of the Year, Foreman Ryan Ruggiero as their 2019-2020 EMT of the Year and Firefighter Daniel Gjodesen as their 2019-2020 Rookie of the Year.
Foreman Patrick Healy joined the Vista Fire Department in September 2016 and has been certified in courses such as Firefighter I, Truck Company Operations and Firefighter Assist & Search Team (F.A.S.T). Foreman Healy showcases the dedication it takes to receive the Firefighter of the Year award in the Vista Fire Department. Foreman Healy was the #8 responder in 2019 attending 121 out of 301 calls and was the #2 drill attendee participating in 33 out of 37 drills in 2019.
Foreman Ryan Ruggiero joined the Vista Fire Department back in November 2015 and has been certified in courses such as Firefighter I, EMT-Basic, Firefighter Survival, Truck Company Operations, Firefighter II, Engine Company Operations and is Nationally Certified in both Firefighter I & Firefighter II. Foreman Ruggiero showcases the dedication it takes to receive the EMT of the Year award in the Vista Fire Department. Foreman Ruggiero was the #1 responder in 2019 attending 246 out of 301 calls, was the #7 drill attendee participating in 28 out of 37 drills in 2019, was the #2 responder as a lead EMT in 2019 and has previously won both the 2016-2017 Rookie of the Year & 2017-2018 Firefighter of the Year award.
Firefighter Daniel Gjodesen joined the Vista Fire Department in December 2018 and has been certified as an Ambulance driver with the Vista Fire Department. Firefighter Gjodesen also serves the Vista Fire Department as our Assistant Treasurer on the house operations side of the Department and has been a Police Officer with the Ridgefield (CT) Police Department for close to 20 years. Firefighter Gjodesen showcases the dedication it takes to receive the Rookie of the Year award in the Vista Fire Department.
