This week's Monday Night Drill was a "Bailout PowerPoint" drill for our Firefighters and a "Cardiac Emergencies" drill for our EMTs.
The "Bailout PowerPoint" drill had our Vista Firefighters reviewing the bailout system that we use in the Vista Fire Department. Vista Firefighters learned about the bailout system by going over how to deploy the system, how to properly maintain it, how to properly repack & inspect their bailout system and what will be expected of them when they complete the practical portion following the PowerPoint. Vista Firefighters also performed a first floor bailout and leg lock exercise to prepare them for next week's training. With the completion of this drill, the Vista Firefighters who attended this presentation will now participate in practical training where they will have to perform several bailouts next week.
The "Cardiac Emergencies" drill had our Vista EMS personnel going over how to handle a cardiac arrest emergency and the proper protocols for these types of events. Vista EMS personnel learned about cardiac conditions such as myocardial infarctions, angina pectoris, abdominal aortic aneurysm and acute coronary syndrome. Our members also participated in a patient assessment where they had to identify the cardiac emergency the patient was having.
