This week's Monday Night Drill was a "Bailout Practical" drill for our Firefighters and a "Glucometry" drill for our EMTs.
The "Bailout Practical" drill had our Vista Firefighters conducting the annual practical portion of our bailout training. Vista Firefighters conducted two "jumps" using different techniques and procedures on how to operate our bailout system. This training has now certified our interior firefighters on the bailout system that the Vista Fire Department uses for the next year. We would like to thank the South Salem Fire Department for allowing us to use their bailout training window this past Monday night.
The "Glucometry" drill had our Vista EMS personnel going over how to properly use the glucometer during an EMS call. A glucometer is a medical instrument used to measure the concentration of glucose in the blood and is part of the EMS equipment we carry on our ambulances. Vista EMS personnel reviewed our glucometry protocol, practiced taking glucometer readings on a patient during medical treatment and reviewed the differences between hypoglycemia versus hyperglycemia. The "Stroke" portion of the drill had our Vista EMS personnel going over the signs & symptoms of a stroke and a review of the S-LAMS protocol to identify a stroke.
