This Saturday evening, we held an "Onboarding Module Training Program" for several new members of the Vista Fire Department.
The session focused on three core modules:
Module 6 - History of the Vista Volunteer Fire Department
Understanding the history of the Vista Fire Department is essential for new members to build a sense of pride and connection to the organization. This module explored the department’s roots, its evolution over the years, and the values that have shaped its mission and culture. By learning about our history, probationary members gain a deeper appreciation for the legacy they are now a part of.
Module 7 - Chain of Command
This module helped new members understand the structure and leadership hierarchy of the department. It covered the roles and responsibilities of Senior Members, Foremen, Lieutenants, Captains, Assistant Chiefs, and Chiefs. Understanding the chain of command ensures effective communication and decision-making during emergencies, drills, and day-to-day operations.
Module 8 - Path Forward After Clearance
Upon successfully completing their probationary period, members are encouraged to continue developing their skills and taking on greater responsibilities. This final module outlined the various paths available, including becoming an EMT, firefighter, or apparatus driver. It also emphasized the importance of ongoing training, leadership development, and continued involvement in department activities.
The "Onboarding Module Training Program" is an eight-module curriculum designed to equip probationary members with the essential knowledge, skills, and mindset they need to succeed. Each module builds on the last, blending hands-on training with important theoretical insights into firefighting, EMS, and departmental culture.
This training not only provides a solid technical foundation but also fosters a sense of connection, confidence, and pride in being part of the Vista Fire Department. By the end of the program, new members are well-prepared to serve safely, effectively, and as part of a unified team.
