| This week’s Monday night drill focused on two important areas of emergency response operations: Tanker Attack Engine Operations and Ambulance/Utility 256 Driver Training.
On the fire suppression side, members trained on the operational capabilities of Tanker 4 while functioning as an attack engine. Training included pump panel operations, water supply considerations, hose deployment, and practical engine company tactics utilizing the apparatus. As one of the department’s primary fire suppression resources, it is essential that members understand how to effectively operate Tanker 4 in both tanker and engine roles.
Simultaneously, Fire and EMS personnel participated in Driver Training for Ambulance 84B1, Ambulance 84B2, and Utility 256. The Vista Fire Department Driver Training Program provides members with hands-on instruction and supervised drive time before they are approved to operate department vehicles independently. In addition to driving skills, members become familiar with vehicle operations, equipment locations, emergency response considerations, and department driving procedures.
The Driver Training Program follows a structured progression that allows members to gain experience and confidence operating increasingly larger and more complex apparatus while maintaining a strong emphasis on safety and professionalism.
Regular training opportunities such as these help ensure that Vista Fire Department personnel remain prepared to safely and effectively respond to emergencies throughout our community. By investing in both apparatus operations and driver development, we continue to strengthen our operational readiness and service to the residents we protect.
