| On Monday, June 22, 2026, at approximately 8:08 p.m., the Vista and South Salem Fire Departments were dispatched to a residence on Elmwood Road for a report of smoke coming from a house.
Upon arrival, Vista Fire Department Chief Jeff Peck observed visible smoke from the roof and transmitted a first alarm assignment. During a 360-degree size-up of the structure, visible fire was observed on the rear, or “C side,” of the home, including the C/D corner.
Vista and South Salem Fire Department crews quickly stretched three 1¾-inch hoselines and worked to knock down the main body of fire. Due to the size and complexity of the incident, multiple mutual aid agencies responded to assist at the scene and provide coverage.
During fireground operations, one mayday was transmitted after a firefighter fell from the first floor into the basement. The firefighter was visible from the exterior, and Vista and South Salem firefighters quickly worked together to extricate the firefighter from the basement. The firefighter was immediately placed into the care of EMS, transported to the hospital for evaluation, and was released earlier this morning.
No occupants were home at the time of the fire. The fire was reported by a passerby.
The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team responded to the scene. The cause and origin of the fire was reviewed by the appropriate officials, and no further details are being released at this time.
Vista Command was terminated shortly after midnight on Tuesday morning.
