| The Vista Fire Department is proud to announce that Probationary Firefighter/EMT Candidate Jared Richardson is now qualified to drive Engine 142.
Probationary Firefighter/EMT Candidate Jared Richardson successfully completed the VFD’s Engine 142 Driver Training Program, which currently requires a minimum of 12 hours of total driving time and a minimum of 8 hours of total pump time. The training also includes completion of the MPO Powerpoint Presentation, drafting off the front suction, drafting off the master intake, supplying a master stream while drafting, pumping 200’ of 1 ¾ hose, pumping 200’ of 2 ½ hose, supplying an engine or tanker from drafting, doing a proper changeover from tank water to a positive water supply, drafting out of a portable pond, identifying the dry hydrants located in the Vista Fire District, use of extrication tools, how to build a crib box, use of air bags, and participation in at least one weekly truck report.
Throughout the program, trainees are evaluated on the vehicle-operation and apparatus-specific requirements contained in the Department’s current Driver Training Form. Completing the process adds another qualified driver to support the Department’s operational readiness.
